Meet Smudge

Smudge takes his job as resident comedian very seriously. Everything else? Debatable

Smudge is the unofficial class clown of the Humane Society, and this silly boy has a personality that is every bit as big as his goofy antics! Whether he’s making everyone laugh with his silly zoomies or finding a new way to fit into spaces big dogs don’t normally fit in, Smudge has a special talent for bringing a little more joy to life wherever he goes!

When Smudge first came to us, it appeared he had previously fractured his leg and was already in the process of healing. Because of this, he has a slight “bend” to his front left leg, but don’t let that fool you . . . this boy does not let it slow him down one bit! Pool time? He’s IN. Walks? He’ll go for miles! Playtime? His absolute favorite time!

Since Smudge’s leg is still healing, he hasn’t been able to participate in our dog playgroups just yet. However, he shows lots of interest in other dogs and positively greets his canine friends through the kennel gates. Because we do not know if Smudge truly appreciates the company of other dogs, a meet n greet would be required for any potential canine siblings Smudge may have!

Smudge is still working on his leash walking skills! He can get especially excited when a good scent catches his snout, but he takes gentle correction like a champ and continues to make progress with his manners every day!

Smudge does have heartworms, but HSNBA is committed to getting his treatment started as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the shelter is not an ideal place for a dog to undergo heartworm treatment, as they need a calm, quiet environment to recover properly. The Humane Society will cover the full cost of his treatment and support his future family every step of the way! All he needs is someone willing to foster or foster-to-adopt, and we can get Smudge started on his road to recovery!

More than anything, Smudge is looking for his second chance at a cozy life filled with snacks, playtime, adventures, and people who appreciate a little extra goofiness. If your family could use a four-legged class clown, Smudge is ready to report for duty!

I have tested heartworm positive. This means I have a parasite and need treatment. While my friends at HSNBA desperately want to help me, the shelter is too stressful an environment to undertake treatment and treatment itself is very expensive. The shelter has a few options to help with treatment, and if I steal your heart you should talk with them and your vet about what my treatment is like.
