Ollie Boy

Meet Ollie Boy

Ollie is one of the cutest dogs at HSNBA. This guy will hug and kiss you if you are “one
of his people”. Currently listed as a Labrador Retriever, but more probably a Boxer mix,
which would explain his pretty Tricolor markings.

Ollie’s favorite pastimes are walks, car rides, belly rubs, chews and squeaky toys. He is
great on a leash and walks without pulling. He responds reliably to known cues like Sit,
Down, Wait and Touch and is working on other commands.

Ollie has been in the care of HSNBA since just after Christmas 2025. Unfortunately
shelter life has taken its toll on him. He has become reactive to strangers in general. He
needs his “safe distance” until trust is developed. Consequently, he was placed on a
Euthanasia list and at that point I fostered him. I’m lucky enough to be one of his
trusted people.

To set Ollie up for long-term success, he requires a low-traffic, adult-only household with
no more than one or two occupants. A securely fenced yard is preferred so he can
decompress off leash without exposure to public triggers. Ollie does well being left
alone or crated. He is house trained and not at all destructive. He rarely barks and is
calm and quiet when relaxed.

This placement requires an experienced handler who understands subtle canine body
language, spatial management, and positive guidance. Ollie is not suitable for first-time
owners or high-activity homes with frequent guests. He needs an owner who can
recognize and respect his insecurities and guide him through those “stranger danger”
moments. He can be playful with other dogs but (as with people) the introduction needs
to be slow and structured.

If you can win this guy’s heart he will certainly win yours. I assure you that if you are
willing to take that journey with him you will be rewarded with one of the most loving
creatures on this planet.
